Eleanor used to wonder what they meant by widows’ walk. She shops then drives to the park; stands in the old gazebo looking out. Her gaze measures how far to the boundary. Her heart measures love.

Dan’s out there somewhere she knows, hitting his golf ball, married to his widow-in-waiting.
